HOORAY!

So Antonio had a friend come over to help with the beadboard installation... but it was brought to his attention that in order to do this the floors would have to be ripped out... we werent planning on doing the floors until after we moved in but this change made me one happy girl! So while I was at work, Antonio and some help ripped out all those old ugly wood parquet squares throughout the entire house... if you have forgotten what they look like here it is again:

This is what I came home from work to see:

We decided to take on the installation ourselves, so after a lot of research we decided on IKEA's Tundra flooring (color: Antique) and this is the result:

It was pretty easy after the first few cuts and rows... by the end we were fitting pieces around doorways and into small closet spaces... we felt pretty good about ourselves! Here is the dining room:

after: we decided to go with Bob's Carpet Mart for this one and have it professionally installed- good decision! :D

slow and not even steady...

So there hasn't been a post in so long because we haven't worked in so long... Our weekends just keep filling up so fast! It scars me that we are moving in soon and there is such a long list of "to do's" still... but little by little! We have completed the painting in both the living and dining rooms... heres the pics!

Living Room before (blah dirty white):

Living room after (pretty beachy blue!):

It's only painted half way down because we are going to install beadboard/wainscotting on the lower half of the walls... this is the inspiration pic but it wont be as tall:

Dining room before (pooooooop brown!!!):

Dining room after (bright green!):

I LOVE looking from the kitchen through the dining and living rooms... the colors are so pretty next to each other and it just brightens up the whole place! beachy FUN!:

here is antonio starting the beadboard installation process.. but we already realized we got the wrong panels.. these don't have a tongue-and-groove system so when you put the panels side by side the gap is very obvious and looks bad... oh well, we kind of told ourselves that losing money was part of the home renovation process....

hopefully more "coming soon"!

Base coat: check!

We finally got the base coat painted on the house! We still have to paint the gables and fascia and touch up the porch railing and iron shutters.. but it will all come soon.. cant wait to see it once we get new garage door and windows and front door and put some landscaping in! It's coming along :)

Anyway here are pictures, we used the Valspar Duramax Exterior paint and the color is from Porter Paints- light sage:

Pressure washing and lots more yard work!

The longest/hardest weekend so far... this Florida heat and the amount of work is EXHAUSTING! We can barely get through 5 minutes of work before having to stop and down a whole bottle of water or gatorade... but somehow (with the help of our incredible families) we have completely prepped the house for painting- which WILL happen next weekend no matter what!

Antonio with the pressure washer (as clean as you will see him!)

This thing was pretty cool!

pray for good weather next weekend... we need to PAINT once and for all!

Monday, May 24, 2010

This whole weekend comprised of hot muggy days outside... Our goal was to remove some of the trees that were growing too close to the house and prep it for painting. We ended up doing a LOT more than that...

Proof that I worked and didn't just take pictures the whole time :)

Antonio with his big boy toy:

1st task: remove the fence swallowing tree:

aaand scene!

Next task... a little bit larger

I gave it a nice little haircut:

but it wasnt enough for antonio and he completely removed it :(

playing with trees

daddy came out and was a tremendous help with those stinkin stumps!

the next up on the chopping list (while maria temporarily fixes the broken door):

removed:

massive overgrowth:

massive trimming:

massive yard mess:

next up on the list:
-haul away all those branches
-pressure wash the house
-paint the house
oh and we hit a slight little speed bump.. our water bill is showing a possible intermittent leak.. either that or the 2 times we flushed the toilet so far in the house consumed over 2000 gallons of water... so really THAT is the priority on our "to do's".. darn.
